RE:  Dr. Lux to participate in the Medicare bundled payment program for hip and knee replacement.

Dear Patients,

There is great news for my patients who want me to perform their hip or knee replacement and have my fees paid through Medicare.  Starting January 1, 2016, I will be reenrolling  as participating provider in the Medicare program.  Like before, co-pays and deductibles would still be the responsibility of the patient but my fee would be billed under the Medicare program and paid by the same.

The reason for this change is last month Medicare revised the way hospitals and physicians will be paid for hip and knee replacements.  A new system called a “Bundled Payment” was instituted nationally and in parts of the BJC network in July 2015.  This will be fully implemented at Barnes Jewish West County Hospital, where I practice, starting in 2016.

Over time, Medicare patients are going to see a payment made for all of their care in a single “bundled payment” to the hospital system.  This will cover all of the hospital services, anesthesia services, physician fees, implants, therapy, and follow up care for the first 90 days of treatment.

Through this Bundled Payment program I will again participate in Medicare and, at the same time, partner with the hospital to provide the quality of care that my patients have come to expect over the last 25 years.

I will begin taking office appointments immediately for any of my Medicare patients that desire hip or knee replacement.  Realistically Medicare surgeries would not begin until February 2016, as my surgery schedule permits.

Obviously, I did not agree to participate in this program if I was in any way contemplating retirement.  Even though I am 58 years old, I still get asked if I am going to retire.  I plan on working for many years to come!!

If you wish to be seen or have any questions call one of my two assistants Debbie Guy or Sherri Wood through our main number (314) 996-8104 and they can answer all of your questions.
